About
I’m a 35 year old software developer / entrepreneur / business owner. I run a company called Orbitec based in Sydney, Australia. Orbitec does consulting software development, infrastructure design and managed services for clients in Australia and overseas.
I’m passionate about software and technology, and specifically about harnessing the delicate mix of creative inspiration and engineering discipline that drives the development of truly excellent software. Most of what we do nowadays is web-based software, predominantly in Ruby on Rails, though I have worked over the years with too many frameworks, languages and platforms to count.
Outside of work I have many interests, but the main one probably would be aviation – in all forms. I love flying planes, building planes, designing planes and talking about planes (not necessarily in that order!) Fortunately, I’ve got a private pilot’s licence and almost 200 hours under the belt and I like to take to the sky whenever work and family life allows. Clear prop!
I am an avid reader who loves learning and enjoys engaging in discussion on almost any topic imaginable. (Those who know me well will attest to that!) Whenever I come across something new that I don’t know about, I am overcome with the insatiable urge to plough through large swaths of information (web pages and Wikipedia for the most part) until the situation is rectified. I have been this way for as long as I can remember and somehow I don’t think this will ever change!
